Looking for new ways to bring environmental learning into your classroom? Join Sierra Club BC for our series of free, live professional development workshops designed specifically for K-12 educators across British Columbia.
Taking place during the provincial Pro-D Day on Friday, October 23, this virtual workshop series features a selection of live webinars for elementary and high school teachers. Teachers can register for the full series or choose individual webinars based on their interests and teaching needs.
Sessions will offer practical approaches, resources, and ideas that teachers can bring back to their classrooms, with speakers from Sierra Club BC, Ocean Wise, and the UBC Faculty of Education sharing their expertise in environmental education.

Session #1: Introduction to Place-Based Learning (Grades K-7)

This introductory session will explore the foundations of place-based learning and how educators can use the places and communities around them to create meaningful, hands-on learning experiences for students in Grades K–7.
Session #2: Climate Kind Pedagogy (Grades 8-12)

In this session, Dr. Kshamta Hunter will introduce her Climate Kind Pedagogy, a unique approach that brings holistic climate literacy to the forefront.
Session #3: Ocean Literacy, Curiosity, and Action (Grades K-12)

In this session we will explore how educators can use storytelling, Indigenous Knowledge, hands-on learning, and real-world questions about oceans and water to create engaging learning experiences for young people.

This introductory session will explore the foundations of place-based learning and how educators can connect local environments, communities, and real-world issues to learning in Grades 8–12.
