Don’t allow the oil industry to water down or kill the north coast tanker ban!
Right now, oil industry lobbyists are trying to water down—or worse, kill—a proposed oil tanker ban in the Great Bear Rainforest.
Prime Minister Trudeau and the committee studying this legislation need to hear your voice, loud and clear. Together, we can counter the oil industry’s dirty money and influence.
Bill C-48, the Oil Tanker Moratorium Act, is a great first step. Yet it wouldn’t prevent another disaster like the Nathan E. Stewart diesel spill – which has had devastating impacts on food harvesting for the Heiltsuk Nation. It also wouldn’t protect communities from dangers like the recent near-catastrophe of the Jake Shearer fuel barge incident, also near Bella Bella.
Now is our chance to strengthen this ban to prevent disasters like the Nathan E. Stewart – we cannot allow oil industry lobbyists to weaken it.
Call on Prime Minister Trudeau to keep his promise for a legislated tanker ban that will truly protect the people and wild creatures of the Great Bear Rainforest.
