National Day for Truth and Reconciliation Resources

September 30 is Orange Shirt Day, also known as National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. This day honours the children who lost their lives to Canada’s residential school system and honours the survivors, as well as their families and communities. This isn’t simply history — the impacts of this tragic legacy are still being felt today.
We encourage you to reflect on the bravely shared stories of loss, trauma, and resilience.
We invite you to consider the roles we are playing, or could be playing, to better support Indigenous sovereignty in the lands we call home. A good place to start is with the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action. Think about how you can support making these calls a reality. These calls are a guide for how we can contribute to healing and reconciliation in meaningful, tangible ways.
By reflecting, listening to Indigenous voices, and acting in solidarity, we can take steps towards reconciliation. Whether you are attending a local event, engaging in deeper listening, taking time for personal reflection, or advocating for Indigenous sovereignty, your engagement is important.
Let’s honour this day not just by wearing orange, but by committing to listening and truth-telling.
