A day at the beach
At the end of August we hosted a hugely successful Walk & Draw event with Dr. Julius Csotonyi at Third Beach in Stanley Park (X̱wáýx̱way)!
We were so thrilled to have 45 people attend this awesome event on such a beautiful and sunny day to learn more about marine ecosystems.
Julius shared some thoughts about the importance of hosting in-person and place-based events like this:
“It’s wonderful because, I mean, the webinars are great for learning, but there is so much more added to being there in person and actually seeing the environments. And whenever I enter these forests and these intertidal areas I get this, oh, this deep feeling of connection to all the life forms. And this is the thing that I think is so important for us to foster in people.
You know, in these cities and technologically rich areas we lose some of that connection sometimes. And we’re lucky in Vancouver here to have a lot of planted trees. But there’s something special about native ecosystems. To be able to go out there where it’s an intact ecosystem and to see these beautiful beings living together and contributing to a balanced system.”
