Our forest-themed Walk & Draw was a hit!
July 2025
Our Walk and Draw: Small Forest Life event brought together over 20 attendees for a creative and reflective walk through Pacific Spirit Park. We were joined and guided by scientific illustrator Julius Csotonyi. Throughout this walk, we focused on observing and drawing the often-overlooked small beings of the forest.

Getting creative in the woods
Participants explored and sketched ferns, hemlocks, Douglas fir saplings, mushrooms, and banana slugs. Together, we paid particular attention to shading and the role of shadows in forest life. We also took time to listen to the forest and reflect on how these experiences help us see nature in new ways.
Attendees deeply appreciated the chance to connect in person and learn about the beings they encounter every day. The combination of drawing and ecological learning was a highlight of the experience.
Sharing our gratitude
Thank you to Dr. Julius Csotonyi for leading this Walk & Draw with so much energy and enthusiasm! And thank you to all of those who showed up to connect with the forest and the Sierra Club BC community.
