One year of moving the dial for biodiversity
May 14, 2024
It’s been an amazing year for supporting biodiversity in local communities since our Move the Dial project launched in May 2023. With the support of people from across the province we have passed 14 pro-biodiversity resolutions, including one at the Union of BC municipalities.

What is our “Move the Dial” program?
Our goal has been to invite residents from across B.C. to go beyond petition signing and gain the inspiration, resources, and tools necessary for conservation and climate action.
To accomplish this, we collaborated with a former council member and an expert in municipal law to offer workshops and materials for residents to approach their local councils. ‘Dial movers’ contacted champion councillors and presented at city councils across the province. As a result, a wave of city councils across the province have passed resolutions supporting consistent funding to protect and restore biodiversity at the local level.
In addition to these resolutions, our strong network of ‘dial-movers’ rallied support for an effective Biodiversity and Ecosystem Health Framework by sending personalized letters to the provincial government to express why it is so important to protect the places they love and what policies they would like to see in place when the Province asked for feedback.
With the rising impacts of climate change, protecting natural areas that cool temperatures, filter water, and host abundant life, are essential to our collective wellbeing
