Dakota McGovern is a fundraiser, writer, and organizer located on the territory of the K’ómoks First Nation (Courtenay, B.C.). As an environmental studies and political science graduate, Dakota has spent nine years working extensively in grassroots and not-for-profit organizations across various sectors, including 2SLGBTQIA+ rights, Indigenous rights, disaster response and relief, education, and public interest research.
Dakota has been a professional fundraiser for three charities and previously served as the University of Victoria Students’ Society’s Director of Finance and Operations. Dakota’s areas of expertise include not-for-profit operations, fundraising and development, financial management, organizational governance, and human resources.
Dakota has served on the Sierra Club BC board since October 2020 and chairs the Finance and Fundraising Committees. As Treasurer, he provides financial oversight to the board of directors, ensuring accurate reporting, budgeting, and compliance in all aspects of the organization’s finances.
