Cèilidh Smith
Education Program Manager
Cèilidh Smith is the Education Program Manager at Sierra Club BC. She brings a deep commitment to justice-oriented, community-centred, and place-based learning. Her teaching philosophy is rooted in the belief that environmental education should be readily available to all people, in order to achieve both personal and collective transformation.
Cèilidh’s background is in forestry and conservation: she holds a Master of Forestry from the University of British Columbia and a Master of Science from the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences. Her Master’s research focused on the social dimensions of forests, including policy and governance, Indigenous knowledge systems, as well as public communications and engagement.
As a recipient of experiential, outdoor learning throughout the province, as well as in Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Croatia, and Hawai’i, Cèilidh brings both international and locally-grounded perspectives to her work as an educator. Cèilidh aims to create spaces where youth can engage critically, optimistically, and empathetically with the lands and beings around them.
In her free time, you’ll find Cèilidh collecting sea trinkets along Vancouver’s beaches, rock climbing in the nearby mountains, or sourcing second-hand materials for her various sewing projects.
