Getting started

Thanks for your interest in hosting a fundraiser for Sierra Club BC! Events big or small all add up by connecting people to the important work of protecting healthy ecosystems and thriving biodiversity.

Here are some ideas for what your fundraiser could look like:

Host a holiday dinner party for your friends, relatives, and neighbours
Host a silent auction
Sell handmade holiday cards or crafts
Fundraise with your art

Planning your event

Make it social and enjoy the company of others as you organize. Talk to friends and neighbours, and reach out through your networks. Having a detailed plan helps you figure out how much preparation time you will need to put on an event. If you are working with a team, make the plan as a shared document which everyone can edit.

Set a goal

Set an attainable fundraising goal. A goal can motivate you and inspire those around you to help out. Many small amounts can add up to big sums. Whether you raise $20 or $2,000, you can help make an impact.

Start your fundraiser

Using Facebook Fundraising

100% of donations you collect via Facebook fundraisers will go straight to Sierra Club BC. Set up your Facebook fundraiser here and follow these steps:

Click on “Select Nonprofit” and search for “Sierra Club of British Columbia Foundation”
Set your goal. Don’t be afraid to set a stretch goal! Many small amounts can add up to big sums.
Choose your end date.
Give your fundraiser a title and tell your friends why you’re raising money.
Click “Create.”

Using CanadaHelps

A CanadaHelps fundraising website accepts credit card donations so you don’t have to worry about collecting any forms. Set up your CanadaHelps fundraiser here and follow these steps:

Click “Create Your Fundraiser.”
Sign in or click “Create one” if you don’t have an account.
Set “Sierra Club of BC Foundation” as your charity.
Include “Sierra Club of BC Foundation” and your name or organization in your fundraiser title
Donate to yourself first before you ask people to contribute. Your supporters will see others have donated when they visit your page.
