Today we took out an ad to send a clear message to Parliament Hill and the press: B.C. will not stop defending the North Coast Tanker Ban (the only piece of legislation standing in the way of a new northern oil pipeline). Thousands of us fought for it, and it continues to unite people in B.C. today. Ottawa can’t build a pipeline to the coast if they can’t ship the oil out.

The good news is that a new oil pipeline did not make it onto Prime Minister Carney’s first Major Projects List. Let's keep it that way.

Last week, the District of Saanich council passed

Last week, the District of Saanich council passed a motion calling on the BC and federal governments to uphold the North Coast tanker ban, oppose new oil pipelines to BC’s coast, and invest in renewable energy and clean technologies.

Councillour Teale Phelps Bondaroff, who brought the motion forward, put it clearly: “calling pipelines ‘nation-building projects’ is reckless in an era of climate change.”

This resolution will send a strong message that Canada needs to move toward clean energy solutions that create long-term, sustainable jobs without endangering the ecosystems we all depend on.
