Geraldine came to B.C. in the early 1980s. When she saw that clear cut logging was devastating the magnificent old-growth forests of coastal B.C., Geraldine knew she had to take action, so she joined Sierra Club BC to protect the Walbran (under threat again after 35 years ) and the Carmanah valleys.
Since then, she has been involved in and supported the numerous campaigns that Sierra Club BC has spearheaded. In 1998, Geraldine moved to Quadra Island where, together with 5 other islanders, she founded Sierra Quadra, the first local group in B.C.
She says, “For the past 17 years we have had some amazing Sierra successes, our famous Beach Clean Up, fabulous film events, guest speakers and of course the completion of Save the Heart of Quadra Parks in 2103 on the north of Quadra Island, saving 400 hectares from logging and development.”
