Sierra Club BC is happy to offer our environmental education workshops free of charge to K-8 classes across the province. However, as a charity we do gratefully accept donations (our suggested range is $75-$150 per workshop), which help to keep our programming accessible to all. If you would like to request a workshop(s) for your class, school or school district please fill out our online request form.
Due to the evolving COVID-19 situation, we continue to follow public health guidelines and the health and wellbeing of our staff and the learning communities with whom we work are of primary concern. Even if you are less interested in an online workshop than in an in-person workshop, please fill out this request form and we will do our best to accommodate you and your class, taking into account the evolving COVID-19 situation.
As of August 30, 2020 our plan for the 2020-21 school year is to deliver both in-person and online workshops.
We will only deliver in-person workshops in communities in close proximity to where our staff live in order to minimize risk of virus exposure and transmission between learning communities. This means that most in-person workshops will be in the Greater Victoria Area (SD61, 62 and 63). Normally, most of our workshops run for 90 minutes, with approximately half of that time spent outside. Now, in order to minimize virus transmission and increase physical distancing, our programs will take place 100% outdoors.
We will deliver online workshops via video call to schools in communities that are not in close proximity to where our staff live or to schools in school districts that are not accepting external program facilitators for in-person program delivery. Online workshops will include both pre- and post-program support for the benefit of students and teachers. The length of workshops will vary according to grade, but they will be shorter than our in-person workshops.
