reciprocal relationships
Mosses release spores into the air instead of seeds. In Knight’s plume, there is a brown capsule that grows out of the branches to release these spores. Because it is so common, it provides habitat and cover for many small animals. It is also used as a lining for nests. Moss is a source of food for herbivores in the north, such as caribou or musk oxen.
