Congratulations to our 2020 Sierra Club BC Award Winners!
Jack Hemphill Exceptional Volunteer Service Award presented to Jane Welton
Jane Welton has shown amazing leadership working with faith, union and non-profit leaders by participating as a SCBC delegate in Greater Victoria Acting Together (GVAT).
She has spent countless hours listening to community leaders and decision makers to get their take on the many challenges and potential solutions facing forestry relations. We are inspired by her dedication to working across silos and her commitment to listening.
Rosemary Fox Conservation Achievement Award presented to Paul Spong and Helena Symonds
Paul Spong and Helena Symonds have done exceptional work at Orcalab and have supported Sierra Club BC’s campaigning against the old-growth logging in Schmidt Creek upstream of the world-famous orca rubbing beaches.
Together, they are involved in numerous quality-of-life issues that affect orcas and other whales and marine wildlife, including commercial whaling, captivity, fish farms, whale watching and critical habitat.
Geraldine Irby Award for Volunteerism presented to Gabe Davis and Rob Calder
Gabe Davis and Rob Calder showed outstanding leadership in the 50th Anniversary Gala with Mother Mother in Vancouver. The fundraiser was the largest event in Sierra Club BC’s history and introduced Sierra Club BC’s work to hundreds of new supporters.
The amount of work involved in designing, managing, coordinating and recruiting attendees for the event was nearly unfathomable. Sierra Club BC will be forever grateful for this.
