Right now, oil tankers are banned on the North Coast of B.C. thanks to the hard-fought tanker ban of 2019. Alberta’s Premier Danielle Smith wants to undo this law so gigantic tankers full of bitumen can navigate these infamously dangerous waters. This would be disastrous for coastal communities. An oil spill would pollute clean water, destroy the billion-dollar tourism and fishery industries here, cost thousands of British Columbians their jobs, and harm the orcas, salmon and more that call this area home.
