Acknowledging Indigenous Title and Rights

Sierra Club BC acknowledges the First Nations on whose traditional lands we work and live. In the Victoria area, our staff work and live in the lands of the Tsawout, Tsartlip, Pauquachin, Tseycum, Kwsepsum (Esquimalt), Songhees, Malahat, Scia’new and T’Sou-ke First Nations.

In striving to protect B.C.’s wild spaces, we understand that land and people are not separate and honour the First Nations leadership that guides and informs many of our campaigns. Sierra Club BC both recognizes our responsibility and affirms our commitment to working towards reconciliation.

Sierra Club BC recognizes that land in B.C. is unceded and subject to Aboriginal title and rights. Land use decisions cannot occur on First Nations territory without free, prior and informed consent.

An introductory resource for learning more about reconciliation in Canada can be found on the Truth and Reconciliation Commission website.
