Be a part of our history and help us celebrate 50 years!
Sierra Club BC marks our 50th anniversary in 2019. Since 1969, we’ve worked to defend and protect land, waters, forests, animals, birds and other beings from the harms of resource extraction. Since 1999, we’ve helped kids connect to nature and provided environmental education to more than 140,000 students, as well as training to hundreds of teachers.
We invite everyone to join us in celebrating the many accomplishments we can be proud of from the last 50 years. We hope that you will also join us in creating the future that we know is possible for the next 50 years. Read on to find out what we have planned.
50th anniversary galas in Victoria and Vancouver
Join us for our gala in Vancouver on Saturday September 14. This event features an intimate music set with Juno-nominated Canadian indie rock band Mother Mother. Hosted at Davis Trading and Supply, it includes an exquisite reception-style dinner and top shelf complimentary bar service.
We’ll also be hosting a special 50th anniversary gala in Victoria on November 9. On behalf of our Board of Directors and event chair Brian Pinch, we request that you save the date for this dinner gathering at the University of Victoria Faculty Club.
50 Places Project
As Sierra Club BC marks fifty years of conservation work, we are raising our hands to the longtime Indigenous stewards of fifty special places in BC through our 50 Places Project. In many cases, Sierra Club BC and our partners have also played a role in helping protect these places. We invite you to celebrate these stories and learn about this history with us, and find out how you can help create more lasting solutions for conservation now and into the future. Find and celebrate new stories each week on this page and on social media.
We are looking for volunteer support for our special events through the summer and fall. To get involved, please contact Elisabeth Hazell, Manager of Donor Engagement at 250-386-5255 ext. 250 or at email@example.com.
You’re also invited to join our volunteer 50th anniversary committee to help ensure the next 50 years are a big success. In particular, we need help with:
Nonprofit Fund Development (fundraising)
Corporate Partnerships / Sponsorship
We seek to include diverse voices on the committee and we encourage women, people of Indigenous ancestry, people of colour, LGBTQQIP2SA individuals and members of other diverse communities to join. While we’re based in Victoria, you don’t have to be.
Experience is welcome but not necessary – this is an opportunity for mentorship.
We’ll be keeping all of our supporters up to date as details for our celebration are confirmed. Sign up for our newsletter to stay informed.
