For the past 15 years Gail has lived on the Sunshine Coast surrounded by majestic fir, arbutus and cedar trees. She has always supported positive change, beginning with work in the women’s movement and moving on to UBC for 23 years. There she established and ran a Teaching Centre that assisted faculty and graduate students to engage in learner-centred teaching. She served for several years on the executive of the Faculty Association.
Following her early retirement Gail helped to create an Eldercollege program on the Coast, acted as chair of the West Sechelt Community Association, served for two years on the Sierra Club BC Board (2001-3), followed by four years (part of that as co-chair) on the board of the Sunshine Coast Conservation Association. In 2012 she was instrumental in establishing the Alliance4Democracy Sunshine Coast, which actively promotes environmental sustainability, electoral reform and social justice. She currently serves as co-chair.
Gail and her husband love to engage in non carbon-producing activities with dragon-boats, kayaks, canoes and an off-grid cottage at the southernmost tip of the Great Bear Rainforest. She spends time making and listening to music, playing with grandchildren, creating an edible garden and travelling.
